Diversity Scuba is located on Tofo Beach, 20 minutes' drive from Inhambane City, Inhambane Province, on the south east coast of Mozambique. The closest international airports are at Maputo, the capital of Mozambique; Beira, in the north of Mozambique; Harare in Zimbabwe; and Johannesburg in South Africa. There is a small airport in Inhambane City. The road to Tofo is tarmac all the way to the beach and is reachable in any vehicle – a 4x4 is not necessary. To give a rough idea of distance, Tofo is a two-day bus journey, 12 hour drive, or 2 hour flight from Johannesburg in South Africa. We are booking agents for flights from Johannesburg’s Lanseria airport to Inhambane airport and can also arrange transfers in Johannesburg and from Inhambane airport to Tofo. Although we attempt to update information regularly, the following details and prices are subject to change from time to time. Flights to Inhambane are with Charlan Air and leave from Johannesburg’s Lanseria Airport on Mondays and Fridays. The flight takes 2 hours. Fares are SA Rand 2,850 return and SA Rand 1,500 one-way including SA taxes (US$10.00 extra departure tax payable at Inhambane airport). There is a strict 20kg luggage restriction. Minibus Services from Johannesburg to Tofo
There are two minibus services from Johannesburg to Tofo, catering mainly for groups. For more information and for details, please contact Joanna on joanna@diversityscuba.com, or, to contact the operators directly: Hugo at Maputo Backpacker on ngoma@intekom.co.za Leon at xtremetravel@absamail.co.za Minibus Service from Swaziland to Tofo, via Maputo This service is offered by Bills Bus, a one-day trip departing Swaziland on Wednesdays and Saturdays and departing Tofo on Mondays and Fridays, both trips stopping briefly at Maputo. Prices are per person, as follows: Swaziland to Tofo/Tofo to Swaziland – R350 each way, R680 return (stop of at Maputo overnight if desired) Maputo to Tofo/Tofo to Maputo – R200 each way Maputo to Swaziland/Swaziland to Maputo – R150 each way To book, please contact Joanna on joanna@diversityscuba.com, or telephone Grifters Backpackers in Swaziland on + 268 404 5342 Buses run daily to Inhambane from Maputo (leaving at around 5.30am) in the south and Beira in the north. The bus from Maputo to Inhambane takes around 7-8 hours. The bus from Beira takes around 12 hours. Local buses and taxis (chappas) run several times a day from Inhambane City down to Tofo. The journey takes around 30-45 minutes. If you are intending to drive to Tofo, take the EN1 (the main road through Mozambique) and follow it until you get to the junction just south of Maxixe at Lindela. The road is mostly good condition tarmac although some areas are affected by potholes and in need of some maintenance. Once at the junction, follow the road all the way to Inhambane City. Once through Inhambane, another tarmac road (the EN259) follows the coast all the way to Tofo. All roads are clearly sign-posted. If in difficulty, ask any of the friendly locals and they will direct you to the road to Tofo. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is NOT necessary as the tarmac road runs all the way down to the beach. However, particular caution is advised on the roads connecting the EN1 to Inhambane and Tofo, especially at night, due to a very uneven road surface |
